Beauty Tips For Winter

Winter always proves to be a difficult time for my skin. For me, it means incrdibly dry & uncomfortable skin. When it comes to theses beauty tips, it;s more than just adding a richer moisturiser to your routine. I do believe that you truly have to find the products that work best for you & your skin along with taking your lifestyle into consideration. For example, do you spend a lot of time outdoor in the cold weather? These are some of the things that help my skin feel more comfortable throughout the colder months.

Hydrate From The Inside Out: Keeping your body hydrated is important all year long but we must pay special attention to this during the colder months. Naturally, duing the winter we tend to not drink nearly as much water as we do in the summer. Water has so many great benefits to the skin & the body. I try to carry my drink bottle around with me or at least to my car if I'm out & about. My drink bottle also sits on my desk when I'm working at home which is a great friendly reminder to keep hydrated.

Dry & Flaky Skin: Cold weather means dry skin. The air is a lot drier in the winter but we're also buried under layers of clothing where our skin doesn't get the chance to breathe. Moisturising your skin is great but what's even better is if you remove any dry, flaky layers of skin first. My go to scrub to use on my body is Lush Cup O' Coffee Face & Body Exfoliating Mask which I'll reach for a couple of times a week & follow up with a rich body butter from the Body Shop for gorgeous hydrated & glowing skin.

Don't Forget Your Hands: Just like my face, my hands get incredibly dry in the winter months. All throughout winter I'm continously using rich hand creams & nail oils to help lock in as much hydration as possible. I keep a handcream at my desk, in my handbag, in my car & beside my bed because I just never kn ow when I'm going to want to add a little hydration my my hands. The Body Shop do some fantastic rich hand creams which is usually what I reach for but at the monment I'm using Wild Ferns Manuka Honey Hand & Nail Conditioning Cream, which I'm throughly enjoying.

Don't Forget The Lips: Chapped dry lips can be another big problem during the winter. A gentle scrub & a good lip balm will usually do the trick for keeping lip soft, smooth & hydrating. Wild Ferns also does a beautiful lip balm called Protective SPF15 Lip Care which is my favourite lip treatment at the moment. As you can tell I'm a little bit of a Wild Ferns fan.

Healthy Diet: A heathly diet is important all year roun d b ut I think we forget how much a healthy diet can contributed to te appearance & condition of our skin. In the winter I like to make sure that my diet is rich is healthy fats like avocados, nuts & seed. It's important to remember that a healthy diet will contributed to nouished & healthy skin.

What are some of the rituals & products to use during the winter months to keep yourself looking & feeling fresh?

Chances are you've heard me talk about a couple of these products before therefore they're all products I really love using. They're all really beautiful products & I know they're going to make my skin look amazing during the cold, drier months. What are some of the products you've been loving this cold winter season?

Volumising & Lengthening Mascara's

"Sky High lash impact from every angle! Last Sensational Sky High mascara delivers full volume & limitless length. Exclusive Flex Tower mascara brush bends to volumise & extend every single last from root to tip. Waterproof mascara formula infused with bamboo extract & fibres for long, full & lightweight lashes, that don't flake or smudge."

I tired this mascara after it was recommended to me by a friend & it's incredible. I believe it also went viral on TikTok & I can see why. In terms of a lengthening formula, it's one of the best drugstore mascara's I've used in a long time. I've worn it nearly every day since I first tried it!

"Give in to Total Lash Temptation! Build on bold volume to create irresistibly soft, separated & dense lashes coat after coat. Features a creamy & whipped formula infused with coconut extract."

I've been using this mascara since it first came out & it's only now been replaced by the Lash Sensational Sky High mascara. It creates incredible volume while not creating a clumpy mess of your lashes. Both waterproof & washable formulas are incredible while always achieving a gorgeous volumed lash appearance. I've had multiple tubes of this mascara lying around whether that's in my makeup bag or as back ups! I hope they never get rid of this one because it's a great mascara I always fall back on because I know it has my back in terms of performance.

"Kick up the volume & length of each & every lash. Pure, deep colour only adds to the impact. Lashes get instant volume & length."

Now, I haven't tried a whole lot of what I'd consider 'high end' mascaras but this one blew me away. I was given a sample product to try & I fell in love with it immediately. It's not one I reach for all the time purely because I can achieve a very similar look with the mascaras mentioned above but if you're looking to treat yourself or prefer a more 'high end' product, it's definitely worth giving a go!

New To My Makeup Bag

I have a couple of products that are new to my makeup bag that I thought I might be worth sharing with you. This won't be a super in-depth post because the majority of these products a brand new as in I've never tried them before & a couple of the products I've tried before & pulled from my collection and/or brought again recently. What I will is thought, is give you a description of the product so you're able to gauge whether it's a product you might be interested in doing a bit more research on or try out.

"Infused with collagen & antioxidants, this all-in-one primer & serum will help to plump the appearance of your complexion, whilst protecting & prepping the skin for flawless makeup application."

"This two in one make-up meets skincare tinted cream formula with SPF30 may be worn as a light foundation or as a primer to help conceal blemishes, uneven colouring, fine lines, scarring & other imperfections. It will let your skin breathe whilst radiating a healthy lustre."

"This two in one make-up meets skincare tinted cream formula with SPF30 may be worn as a light foundation or as a primer to help reduce the appearance of redness or sallowness, blemishes & other skin imperfections. The silky, light weight texture will let your skin breathe whilst radiating a healthy lustre. Also helps to improve uneven skin tone with its unique light-diffusing pigments."

"This 24 hour clear brow gel shapes & tames brows & locks on makeup so brow don't pull a disappearing act. The custom-folded, dual-sided wand coats hairs from root to tip & the flexible, flake-free formula is easy to apply & quick to dry."

"Sky High lash impact from every angle! Lash Sensational Sky High mascara delivers full volume & limitless length. Exclusive Flex Tower mascara brush bends to volumise & extend every single lash from root to tip. Washable mascara formula infused with bamboo extracts & fibers for long, full & lightweight lashes that don't flake or smudge."

Best Of My Current Skincare Routine

I will be putting up an in-depth post soon of my entire skincare routine, morning & evening but for the mean time I wanted to put together a post that mentions all the new standout favourites in my routine. The majority of these products fall under two categories, either face masks & eye creams/gels but if you have any recommendations of products for dehydrated skin I'd love to hear about them!

"Minimise pores & restore a more radiant skin tone with the brightening & purifying goodness of natural Pink Clay & Witch Hazel. Gently draws out all the dirt & trapped oils in the skin, combined with nourishing Native New Zealand Kawakawa Extract - renowned for its calming & cleansing effects."

It's a pretty basic face mask but it does the job really well. I love how smooth & soft my skin is after using this product. It helps to dry up any active blemishes & leaves skin feeling clean but not dehydrated. It's really affordable & great if you're looking to try something new!

"This light eye serum melts into the skin helping to soften & firm dull stressed skin, adding a boost of radiance with our nourishing formula. Although the name appears a bit sciency, Hyaluronic Acid is a natural, highly active ingredient that fights dullness, fine lines & uneven tone & texture caused by daily UV exposure, stress & ageing."

Again, a pretty simple & straightforward product but I find it to be relatively effective. I've found that it has helped soften & hydrate under my eyes which is exactly want I need in an eye cream. I use this product in conjunction with another eye cream which will be motioned below but I don't have any complaints about this product.

"The lightweight gel formula helps to brighten dark circles & visibly smooths the precious skin around the eyes, using Vitamin C sourced from exotic fruits such as Mango, Papaya & Pineapple."

A really gorgeous lightweight eye gel with a pleasant scent. It's cooling & refreshing under the eyes & I find works really well along side the byNature Hydrating Eye Serum.

"Simple Protect 'n' Glow Detox & Brighten Clay Mask draws out impurities & pollutants like a magnet. Formulated with organic, ginger, natural clays, vitamins C & E, it inspires micro-circulation for revived & revitalised skin. Like all Simple products, it's 100% free from artificial colour & perfume & has no harsh chemical that can upset your skin."

I'm really loving this product & I'd say currently, it's being used more than the mask I mentioned above. This mask leaves my skin feeling revitalised & fresh but not stripped of hydration. I've used Simple skincare products for awhile now & they impress me every single time. I'm looking forward to adding & trying a few more products from this Protect 'n' Glow range from Simple.

What are some of the standout skincare products currently in your routine?

Standout Haircare Products

As someone with a natural curl that get's a bit dry & unruly more often than not, I thought I'd share some of my current standout haircare favourites that I'm really enjoying & more than that, my hair is really loving.

"Been putting your hair though a lot? Help easy some of the damage with Rehab. Olive oil adds strength the hair, while fresh pineapple & papaya juice means this clarifying shampoo cleanses oil & enhances shine." After using Rehab shampoo my scalp & hair feel so beautifully refreshed, the fragrance is fresh but subtle & just a small amount provides such a rich lather! I really wish I had come across Rehab earlier!

"Don't let bad hair days rain on your parade, this nutty conditioner is loaded with ingredients to soften, smooth & detangle your hair for a sleek, moisturised finish." Candy Rain conditioner leaves my hair so smooth & soft. I love that this product has an abundant of moisturising properties which helps protect hair for stronger strands. As someone with curly hair that tangles way to quickly, Candy Rain is the perfect conditioner to help detangle hair as well! It really is the perfect conditioner for my hair, I'm in love.

Garnier have a great range of hair masks for all hair types but what I think I love about them most is their multiple use factor. They can be used as a hair mask, intense conditioner or a leave in treatment. These hair masks consist of a formula that is 98% naturally derived, 98% biodegradable & vegan, with no silicones, no parabens & no artificial colourants. Each individual mask is specialise depending on hair type & scent. My favourites are the Aloe Vera & Macadamia masks as they're for dry & unruly hair types similar to mine. Highly recommend checking out these hair masks, they're for sure some of my favourites!

If anyone has tried any decent curl creams I'd love your recommendations! I'm on the hunt for something incredible!

Sustainable Beauty Swaps

I'm always trying to do a little better when it comes to sustainability. It's easy to have my tot bags at the ready & to fill your recycling bin but what about your beauty routine? I did some research into what I can do better, products I can invest in & I was pleasantly surprised. There are SO many things you can do & I wanted to share some of the ways we can be a little kinder to the planet.

Refill Your Products
It's an option that is slowly filtering into the beauty world & it's such a great idea! Buy a product, love it, use it up & then refill it! It's a fantastic idea & something I hope a lot more brands get on board with.

Convert To Bamboo
Embarrassingly, I was going through a pack of cotton pads, on average, every three weeks before a discovered their reusable counterparts & there are a few different options. I have been using these EverEco Bamboo Washable Makeup Remover Pads for the past six months & they are incredible! I use them, throw them in the little bag they come with & add them to the wash with whatever I've got in there & they come out looking brand new! A wee tip would be to try dampening them a little before applying product to them so they don't soak up the product like a sponge.

Ditch The Sheet Masks
I've never really been a big sheet mask gal & although there are some sheet masks that are made from biodegradable materials, most packaging options aren't which isn't too fab if you
re trying to make your routine more sustainable. Use up the ones you already have & see if you can find a similar, more sustainable product to replace your favourite sheet masks with.

Reusable Buds
This isn't something I've tried personally but upon reading it online I was very intrigued! It does sound super random but now that I think about it some more, cotton buds are so handy to have sitting in your bathroom & I'm always reaching for them. The ones recommended to me were from 'The Humble Co' & they look like they'd work well. I'm definitely going to have to try some out! I'll link some for those here in New Zealand can easily get their hands on.

Turn Off The Tap
It's such a small change but it can make a huge difference in your water & energy consumption. So whenever you're brushing your teeth, shaving or throwing in a leave-in conditioner turn off your water supply. If you can handle it, which I can't, a slightly cooler shower will boost your circulation & is better for your skin, hair & nails in the long-run & again save on all that good stuff too.

Use Stuff Up
As someone who enjoys trying every product recommended to her, it's ironic I'm writing this but I think we've all come a long way since having multiple back ups of products & having over 500 lipstick choices. Over the years, I've cut back my collection massively & consciously try not to make purchases in categories that are already occupied.

Recycling
A lot of products I don't end up using go to friends & family but I've recently found out that their are beauty counters that now accept beauty empties! Make sure they're rinsed throughly before dropping off & separate any pumps & pipettes as these might not be accepted for recycling! You can always check with your local counters to see what will & won't be accepted!

Sunday Night Skincare Routine

Sunday evening is not the only time I set aside for self-care but Sunday's are non-negotiable. I've found having a dedicated period of time for self-care on a Sunday is a great way to head into a new week. It's a bit of a refresh & a good way to say goodbye to the previous week. This is the in-depth skincare routine I carry out on a Sunday self-care evening.

Winter Night Skincare Routine

@socialcut

When it’s cold & dark  outside all I want to do is cosy up in the warmth & what beer way to do so than to treat yourself to a bit of an at home facial. I believe I’ve already talked briefly about my skincare lineup for winter, linked here, but I’ve switched up a few products & had somethings change so I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of my new favourite products.

For the first time in what feels like forever I’ve switched up my cleanser from The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Cleanser to Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser & Antipodes Gentle Cream Cleanser & Makeup Remover. I think the biggest difference I’ve noticed in my skin is that added moisture. While The Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Cleanser was great & still is great for really digging deep & clearly out impurities, it was just to much for my skin now to be using daily. The winter months tend to leave me with really dry skin so the added moisture has been a delightful treat to my skin.

Moisturiser is something else that I don’t typically change up too often but I have fallen in love with Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream. It carries a whole lot of gorgeous properties with it such as Vinanza Grape Seed oil which keeps skin healthy & energised, Manuka Honey which has potent anti-blemish properties & Rosehip oil which holds high levels of vitamin A & C & essential fatty acids to help reduce the appearance of scars & wrinkles. It’s a really gorgeous moisturiser.

In terms of face masks I’ve fallen back in love with the L’Oreal Pure Clay Masks. There are three in the range that are all targeted for different results. All three masks hold 3 pure clays & are then combined with either Eucalyptus, Charcoal or Red Algae to help target specific areas. The Purity & Mattify Mask holds the Eucalyptus which is known for it’s purifying properties, the Detox & Brightening Mask holds the Charcoal which is known to act like a magnet to draw out impurities & the Glow & Refining Mask holds the Red Algae which is known for it’s brightening properties. I love that you’re able to create a tailored detox regime with your own multi-masking solution & that you can apply either 1, 2 or 3 masks at a time to address your skins needs depending on the day.

The unique triple-action formula works effectively to clear, regulate and brighten, reversing the dulling effects of accumulated grime and impurities. There are so many gorgeous natural products in this face mask which makes in one of my all time favourites. It’s a simple yet really effective product that is an essential in my routine currently.

Currently In My Makeup Bag: Quarantine Edition

Quarantine has meant that I've been working from home & to on most days I haven't been wearing a lot of makeup, if any at all. On the days I have decided to wear a bit of makeup, it's been super minimal & effortless.

Base Products
Chichi Super BB Cream & Chichi Super CC Cream: For my base I've been using a combination of these two products over the past six weeks. These products have a gorgeous light weight but medium coverage, which still has the ability to let your skin breath. I tend to use these products together but I have also used them individually as well & they're just as gorgeous.

Maybelline Matte Maker Powder: For a long time this has been my go to settings powder. It's another beautiful light weight product that seamlessly blends with any base product.

Revlon Sculpt & Highlight Contour Kit: This is a great wee palette as it has everything you need. It's super natural & it still gives you a beautiful sculpted look.

Brow & Eye Products
Revolution Ultra Brow Kit & Benefit Cosmetics 24HR Brow Setter: These products are the dream team. Revolution have created the perfect palette which contain 4 bendable powders & 2 tinted waxes. Benefit have a gorgeous brow setter that shapes, tames & locks makeup on brows which means you're brows aren't going to disappear.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Waterproof Mascara: Maybelline does some of my all time favourite mascara's & this is just another one of those favourites. It's a gorgeous mascara with a great volumising formula, giving lashes a full-fan effect.

5 Beauty Products I'm Taking Into 2020

In my 2019 Yearly Lifestyle & Beauty Favourites I mentioned a whole bunch of products that I loved throughout 2019 but I wanted to see if I could take the number of products down to just five that I would take with me into 2020.

Now having down this doesn't mean that I've fallen out of love with any of the other products but trying new & experimenting with other products is one of my favourite things to do so to allow that to happen I wanted to see if I could just take my ultimate top 5 into 2020 & start trying out some new products for 2020. With that in mind, keep an eye out for product reviews which I plan on doing plenty of this year!

10 December 2019

Summer Skincare Lineup

It's come to that time of the year again where I mention my current skincare lineup. I won't be going into great detail of each individual product because the chances are pretty high that I've already spoken about them before however I'll leave everything linked so you can look some more into the product.

Just know, that I love each product mentioned in today post & I wouldn't talking about it if I didn't but please remember to conduct your own research into individual products as works for my skin may not work for yours & vise versa.

This product has been a staple in the skincare routine for years now. It works incredibly well for helping keep my skin clear of impurities, it doesn't dehydrate my skin & my face feels throughly cleansed afterwards.

More of a newer product to my lineup but nonetheless, it's fantastic. It unclog pores like you'd never believe, removes dead skin cells & leaves your face feeling squeaky clean & fresh.

This activated charcoal mask is designed to target toxins & draw out impurities & I promise that's exactly what it does! It's the perfect mask if you're wanting to remove any clogged pores.

In this product, Essano uses natural clays to help draw out impurities, dirt & toxins which also helps leave your skin feeling refreshed & revitalised. It includes Shea Butter, Aloe Vera & antioxidant rich, certified Rosehip Oil which will help restore balance & radiance to skin.

One of the things I love most about this product is that is it designed for all-over-body use. It's fast acting & great on extra-dry skin. It's non-greasy & fragrance free while instantly replenishing, hydrating & protecting for dry & sensitive skin.

This is a good ole favourite of mine. It keeps skin moisturised for 12 hours & is made with skin loving ingredients such as pro-vitamin B5 & vitamin E, as well as there being no artificial perfumes, colours or dyes & no harsh chemicals.

If I'm wanting a mosituriser with SPF in it because I'm feeling lazy, this is what I reach for. It's such a beautiful product & Invisible Zinc have some of the best SPF products. I definitely recommend the Invisible Zinc as a brand.
